Hotel Crush - Sublime, Comporta in Portugal

Now My Uncle loves a holiday as much as the next old Joe, but recent events have meant many of us have had to put wanderlust firmly on hold.

While we are dreaming of sun soaked adventures yet to come, we look back with fondness on past escapes to some of our favourite places and boltholes around the world.

First up in our series 'Hotel Crush' is the beautiful gem that is Sublime, in Comporta, Portugal. Hidden behind unassuming gates (that are easy to miss) lies an oasis of laid back coastal luxury.

Sublime, comporta facade

Sublime is situated in Comporta in Portugal, its surrounded by undulating umbrella pines and cork trees, wild sand dunes, rice fields and over 60km of pristine, white-sand beaches - a magical, unspoiled place where you can relax in nature.

Many of the buildings are made up of wood and glass, all which reflect that honey coloured Portuguese light perfectly.

The interiors mix modern Mediterranean charm with a touch of bohemian flair. Raffia fringed lampshades set against clean whites, and the odd splash of Atlantic ocean blue.  Much of the architecture and interiors are simple and elegant but designed not to overshadow the breathtaking surroundings.

This is a luxury hotel but it doesn't scream it from the rooftops and that is the beauty of much Portuguese interior design, it's laid back, unassuming and quietly cool.

Sublime's charm lies beyond it's gates and out into the surroundings of Comporta, an hour south of Lisbon but a world away, the area is surrounded by rice paddies & pine forests and some exceptional beaches, it feels rugged and undiscovered and invites adventure.

Sublime is nestled on a stunning 17-hectar estate, immersed in nature, It features the largest 'biological' pool in Europe and many of the villas have private pools. You'll find a spa and a few restaurants on site (We recommend the Scarlett prawn and as much Polvo as possible!)

My Uncle's Top Tips:

  • Go to Comporta Town and shop the small but very well edited boutiques, each with a touch of bohemian charm, you'll find fashion and homewares.
  • Head to the fire pit on chillier nights and relax in the tranquility of it all.
